2026 June Update
Last Updated: 2026-06-04
I know I said I’d work on the site, but then Create Aeronautics dropped and I was consumed. I also landed in Brazil.
Create Aeronautics
For those who don’t know, Create is a mod for Minecraft that adds gears and windmills and the means to make all sorts of contraptions, farms, factories, and logistical systems. Create Aeronautics adds the means to make flying, floating, and rolling vehicles.
Reader, I need you to understand. When I heard about the drop, I started to foam at the mouth. Various mods have existed for over 12 years to add flying machines to Minecraft but none satiafied me. Create Aeronautics is just chef’s kiss perfect. It hits the optimal blend of artistic expression and engineering-focused problem solving that keeps me awake till 3am and possesses my mind like demons amongst swine.
I’ll share a detailed break down of some of my builds in a separate project eventually, but so far I have built a series of helicopters, an oversized airship with a hanger for said helicopter, a survival friendly airship base, sky scooters as tenders to the airship, an industrial microwave, a workshop, and a couple farms.
Visiting Brazil
The only thing capable of clawing my mind away from Aeronautics has been my trip to Brazil. The wife and I are wrapping up week two of our three-month visit south. Before our departure, our time was occupied with preparing our house and family members for our extended absence. Two trailer loads of yard waste and one of house detritus was hauled to the dump. Pet sitters and house cleaners were employed. Goodbyes and final visits were made.
It has been over two years since my wife moved to the U.S. and this has been our first opportunity to visit her side of the family. With neither of us working this summer and no kids yet, this seemed like the last time we could be out of country for such an extended time. I’ll post my experiences as I can, but if I have my way there won’t be much to report.
“Now it is a strange thing, but things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating, and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit”
Other Goings On
I watched “The Mandolorian and Grogu” in theatres on its release date and enjoyed it. I entered expecting to be dissapointed, and was pleasantly surprised and entertained.
I have a mild obsession and unending search for the perfect PDA. What defines the perfect PDA? I have no idea, but I feel like I’ll recognize it when I see it. In the mean time, I have been playing with some of my own handheld electronics to make it happen.
I jail broke my Dad’s Kindle Paperwhite. Now that I have, it occurs to me that the internal storage is only 4GB which quickly filled up with the files necessary to jailbreak it. I am still figuring out what to do with it next. I wanted to make it into a PDA, but with no SD card expansion, I feel my options are limited.
I have discovered muOS for my retro handheld emulator, the Anbernic 35XX-H. I’m working on installing it with hopes that I can add PDA-esque functionality to the device.
I discovered a simple photo compression tool. Eventually, I’ll go through the handful of photos I have on this site and shrink them down.
I think I want to switch up my website’s design to have a more text-focused theme, something resembling old CRT terminals.
Will I complete any of these projects? Maybe. Will I post more details about these projects? Hopefully. I certainly have the time. It’s just a matter of making the transition from consuming media to making it.
All the best, Akelas
